The benefits of raising kids on a farm are endless. Although we don’t live on the farm, we spend hours there working hard and creating memories. Being outside invokes their natural sense of adventure. It provides many teachable moments as well as smile worthy memories that your family will treasure forever.
Here are a few benefits to farm living:
My daughters love helping my husband feed the chickens and collect the eggs. As they get older, they may not enjoy these tasks as much, but they are learning how to handle chores and be responsible. Farming is hard work, and learning how to balance fun with hard work is an invaluable lesson.
Value of Hard Work
My husband has always been a hard worker, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen him work as hard in the office as he has on the farm. Watching him combine hard physical labor along with bonding time with our daughters is one of the things that I will always treasure about farm life. Kids learn more by what we do rather than what we say. They are observing their dad, the farmer, work hard and hopefully, his work ethic will be instilled in them.
In the age of social media and technology, kids are constantly plugged into something. Farm life forces you to use your imagination and be creative. I love the moments when I can watch my daughters draw pictures in the dirt, talk to the animals and run wild and free.
Builds Lifelong Memories
One of my children’s favorite things to do on the farm is having picnics. Since we spend hours at a time on the farm, it’s convenient to bring snacks and have lunch outside. We love having Goldfish crackers because they are easy to pack, leaves a minimal mess & they are a definite family favorite!
