4 Ways Parenting Makes You A Master At Multitasking

The moment you become a parent, multitasking becomes your new way of life–it’s called baptism by fire.

I remember bringing home my oldest baby girl. I had a c-section because she was breech (she absolutely refused to face head down).  I desperately wanted to breastfeed and had some trouble getting her to latch in the hospital. With the help of the nurses, lactation consultants & my mom, I had all the support I needed.

The moment you become a parent, multitasking becomes your middle name. You learn how to run a household, work & everything else in between-at the same time.

Once I returned home, it was all me. One night, I felt like God had mercy on me because I no problems getting her to latch on. I gazed at her sweet face and was basking in mommy glory. Then all of a sudden my stomach started to gurgle and I had the urge to race to the restroom (those of you who’ve had c-sections understand my urgency).

I felt like such a terrible mother for taking my newborn in the bathroom with me. Later I called my mom and she told me that moms breastfeed everywhere–even the toilet. That made me feel so much better!!

Now that I’m a mom of 2 (with one on the way), I’ve learned that multitasking is the way EVERY mom functions.

The moment you become a parent, multitasking becomes your middle name. You learn how to run a household, work & everything else in between-at the same time.

Here are a few ways that parenting makes you a master at multitasking:

Discipline & Driving

How many times have you fussed at your kids for nonstop arguing in the car?? And better yet, how many times have you reached behind you to give them a physical warning? It’s amazing the life lessons that can happen while in the car.

Sleep & Answering Questions

My kids loving climbing in the bed with us–especially on the weekends when we all sleep in. It seems like they are always asking questions first thing in the morning. I don’t know about you, but I need time to wake up. But somehow, my brain musters up enough energy to answer questions like:

“Do cheetahs live in the dessert?”

“Do lions eat elephants?”

And finally the question that gets them to stop asking questions: “Can I watch tv?”

Bathe & Educate

I’m pretty sure my kids learned to count, sing their ABCs & learned body parts all while taking a bath. It’s such a great bonding time, and they are stuck in one place!

Shower & Soothe

Now this one is specifically for moms. I remember when I first brough my girls home from the hospital. I breastfed them both. If my husband was at work and I needed a shower, I often brough the swing in the bathroom. If they started to cry, I would sing or talk to them through the shower until I could hurry out.

Now that my kids are older, they often have some sort of crisis when I’m in the shower. I’ve diffused many arguments while bathing.

In what ways do you multitask while parenting??
